Based on preclinical and Phase II clinical trials, ARA-290 (also known as Cibinetide) has shown potential benefits for neuropathy, chronic inflammation, tissue repair, and organ protection. Engineered to be a non-erythropoietic version of the hormone erythropoietin (EPO), ARA-290 activates the body’s innate repair receptor (IRR) without causing the risks associated with increased red blood cell production.

Neuropathic pain and nerve repair

    • Reduces neuropathic symptoms: In clinical trials for diabetic and sarcoidosis-associated small fiber neuropathy, ARA-290 significantly improved neuropathic symptoms such as pain and tingling.
    • Promotes nerve regeneration: Studies have shown that ARA-290 treatment can lead to an increase in small nerve fiber density, suggesting that it helps regenerate damaged nerve fibers.
    • Inhibits pain pathways: It has been found to inhibit the TRPV1 channel, a pain receptor, which may provide direct analgesic effects in addition to its anti-inflammatory action.
  • Reduces central inflammation: In animal studies, ARA-290 reduced spinal inflammation (microglia activation), which is linked to chronic neuropathic pain.
